The brick on the columns of this show was dimensional masonite, textured with sand and sawdust, but the design called for the main mural surface to be smooth, with the impression of brick visible through it.  So we painted a brick pattern, using a gloss white for the grout, so that it would catch the paint differently than the flat sheen of the brick color.  I painted the mural over this, being careful not to apply so thickly as to lose the base coat.  Then I added the foreground mural, meant to look like a printed, wheatpasted image, and finally distressed the entire thing to unify it.
