Lintel was that classic kind of set that is supposed to look like there’s no set there at all.  Consequently, the level of realism was very important.  The floor had to look like a plank floor that had once been painted black.  To achieve this, we painted the plank floor, glossed it intensely, painted over it with cheap flat black paint, then let our improv troupe and then this show rehearse on it.  We added a little extra artful damage at the end and then sealed the whole thing for real just before opening.
